Pope Francis has passed away at the age of 88, according to an official statement from the Vatican released on Monday.
The Vatican’s Telegram channel shared a message from Cardinal Kevin Farrell, which read: “This morning at 7:35 a.m. (0535 GMT), the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father.”
His death comes just a day after he made a widely anticipated appearance during Easter celebrations at Saint Peter’s Square.
