A 45-year old woman, Oghale Ibi, has been arrested and charged for allegedly stealing over N5.3m belonging to another woman, Augustina Odoh, at Tradefair Complex in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened before 24th December, 2024, at Association Progressives Traders, Tradefair complex in Lagos State.
According to the Police, the suspect and others now at large conspired and stole the money. They were arrested and handed over to the Police at Tradefair Division for interrogation and prosecution.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found her culpable and consequently charged her before the Ojo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
“That you, OGHALE IBI ‘F’, and others at large, on or before 24th day of December, 2024, during the day time, at Association of Progressive Traders (APT), Trade fair complex, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial district, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: Stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411, Criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”
COUNT II:-“That you OGHALE IBI ‘F’, and others at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial district, did dishonestly steal jewelries worth Five million, three hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira (N5,330,000.00) property of One Augustina Odoh ‘f and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280. and punishable under section 287, criminal law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2015. ”
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Simeon Uche, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.M.Ogun, granted her bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
