A large number of Kogi Central constituents have expressed strong support for the ongoing recall process of their suspended senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, asserting that no amount of misinformation or propaganda will halt their efforts.
According to the constituents, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s tenure in the Senate was a mistake that they are determined to rectify. Represented by over 10,000 individuals from the five local government areas of Kogi Central, the Kogi Central Grassroots Movement issued a statement on Wednesday, signed by its Coordinator, AbdulHameed Jimoh, and Secretary, Mohammed Abdullahi.
They accused the senator’s camp of spreading misleading information and fabricating videos to counter the recall effort but maintained that her time in the Senate was effectively over.
Urging Nigerians to disregard social media narratives, the group claimed that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has lost significant political influence, even among her former allies.
“She falsely accuses the state government of orchestrating her recall when in reality, even her once-loyal supporters have distanced themselves from her,” the statement read.
“She went to the Senate to serve her personal interests, not those of Kogi Central.”
The group further alleged that the senator had embarrassed herself internationally by making controversial claims about the Senate President and misrepresenting the reasons behind her suspension.
They also accused her of attempting to stage a protest in Okene by distributing items to residents in hopes of rallying support.
According to them, external individuals were brought in to pose as constituents, and the senator’s team spread false reports about people being misled into signing the recall register.
Observers of the situation, they claimed, would agree that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has drawn negative attention to Kogi Central through her actions.
“No responsible constituents would stand by and watch their senatorial district suffer without taking action. The recall process is essential to demonstrate that Kogi Central does not endorse her conduct,” the statement added.
The constituents also criticized her for taking what they described as a domestic issue to international platforms like the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the United Nations, arguing that she did so to tarnish Nigeria’s image.
“You cannot disgrace your country on the global stage and still expect to hold a leadership position. Since she refuses to resign, the people are determined to remove her,” they stated.
Lastly, they called on the media to verify claims from all sides and rejected allegations that those signing the recall register were tricked with false promises or financial incentives.
“The electorate participating in this recall process are well-informed and cannot be deceived,” the statement concluded.
