The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land allocation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat in Abuja due to prolonged non-payment of ground rent.
The revocation was conveyed through an official notice dated March 13, 2025, with the title “Notice of Right of Occupancy with File No: MISC 81346 in Respect of Plot No: 243 within Central Area District, Abuja.” The letter, issued on Tuesday, was signed by Chijioke Nwankwoeze, Director of Land Administration for the FCT.
The directive cited the PDP’s failure to settle its financial obligations on the property for 20 years, covering the period from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025. Despite multiple public notifications in national newspapers and electronic media urging landowners in the FCT to clear outstanding ground rents, the opposition party failed to comply.
The document stated:
“The Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, exercising the authority vested by the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978, Cap. L5, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, has revoked the rights, interests, and entitlements of the PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP), NATIONAL SECRETARIAT over Plot No. 243 within Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja.”
The action was based on Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act, which allows for revocation in cases of non-compliance with the terms of land allocation.
As a result, Wike ordered the FCT Administration to assume control of the land immediately, pending the full payment of all outstanding charges.
