Suspected kidnappers have abducted Wale Oluyi, the proprietor of Daisi Oluyi Farms, along with his farm manager.
As reported by The Nation, the assailants reportedly invaded the farm, located near Ogbese in Akure North Local Government Area, around 11 p.m. on Thursday, firing gunshots indiscriminately before seizing their victims.
Sources close to the victims’ families confirmed that the abductors have demanded a ransom of N30 million for their release.
A relative disclosed that efforts are already underway to raise the ransom to secure their freedom, adding that the case has been reported to the police at the Ala Elofosan division.
Meanwhile, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling criminal activities in the state. Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, he vowed to rid the state of criminal elements and maintain Ondo’s reputation as one of the safest states in the country.
He urged traditional rulers, community heads, and residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
“We will not allow Ondo State to become a safe haven for criminals,” Aiyedatiwa stated. “While law-abiding citizens are welcome to live and do business here, we will not tolerate individuals who pose as farmers but engage in illegal activities such as kidnapping.”
He further encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious activities, emphasizing that security is a shared responsibility.
Efforts to reach the state police spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami, for comments were unsuccessful, as calls to her phone were unanswered.
