The Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Martins Amaewhule, has suspended its plenary sessions indefinitely.
As reported by Politics Nigeria, during a session held on Friday, March 14, in Port Harcourt, Amaewhule informed fellow lawmakers that legislative proceedings would be put on hold until further notice.
This decision followed the ongoing political unrest in the state, particularly after Governor Siminalayi Fubara was unable to re-present the 2025 budget proposal as instructed by the Assembly.
The governor had attempted to submit the budget on Thursday but was reportedly prevented from accessing the Assembly complex.
In response, Governor Fubara formally communicated with the House, proposing to reintroduce the budget on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, or on any alternative date within the month deemed appropriate by the legislators.
