Reports suggesting that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is set to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been dismissed as baseless and misleading.
In a statement released on Friday, the Atiku Media Office refuted claims circulating on some news platforms, clarifying that Atiku remains a steadfast member of the PDP.
The statement emphasized that Atiku has consistently advocated for a coalition of opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general election, with the goal of unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and alleviating the hardships faced by Nigerians.
According to the media office, the former vice president is actively working alongside other political leaders to build a formidable alliance that includes the PDP. Allegations of his defection, they stated, contradict the very essence of this coalition effort.
“Atiku remains a principal and bonafide member of the PDP, the main opposition party. Any insinuation to the contrary is a deliberate attempt to mislead Nigerians about the scale of the grand coalition being formed to rescue the country from the APC,” the statement read.
The media office urged the public to disregard unfounded reports and reaffirmed Atiku’s commitment to the opposition movement.
