The Ondo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, has called on corps members to uphold the vision and aspirations of the Scheme’s founding fathers.
She made this appeal during the Closing Ceremony and Terminal Parade for the 2024 Batch ‘C’ (Stream II) corps members posted to Ondo State, along with those relocated from Lagos State.
Bakare highlighted the Scheme’s core objective of mobilizing skilled Nigerian youths and exposing them to the country’s socio-political realities. She urged corps members to internalize the lessons learned during their orientation and apply them throughout their service year and beyond.
“You must take the lead in promoting national reorientation and unity, as championed by our President. Strive to foster an egalitarian society where no one is marginalized,” she stated.
Reassuring corps members of their safety, Bakare affirmed that both Ondo and Lagos governments prioritize the protection of lives and property, regardless of political, ethnic, or religious differences.
Encouraging them to embrace their postings, she urged corps members to contribute meaningfully to rural development by initiating impactful projects. “Your predecessors have set remarkable standards; you must build on their legacy and seize this opportunity to serve our people,” she added.
Commending their discipline during the orientation camp, Bakare advised them to remain exemplary representatives of their families and the nation. She also stressed the importance of acquiring at least one vocational skill before the end of their service year to enhance their self-reliance and economic prospects.
Additionally, she cautioned against unauthorized travel and nighttime journeys, emphasizing the need to seek official approval before embarking on trips.
The NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko hosted a total of 2,072 corps members, comprising 1,291 deployed to Ondo State and 781 dislodged from Lagos State.
