The Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has called on corps members to prepare themselves to address the challenges of national development.
Governor Aiyedatiwa made this statement during his address to the 2024 Batch ‘C’ (Stream II) corps members deployed to Ondo State, along with those relocated from Lagos State.
The Governor spoke at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko, urging the corps members to embrace their roles as catalysts for Nigeria’s national rebirth and progress.
He emphasized that the service corps members have a crucial responsibility to ensure the future of Nigeria and the well-being of future generations.
The Governor encouraged them to focus on positive contributions and distance themselves from negative tendencies, urging them to rededicate themselves fully to the task of fostering constructive changes across the nation.
As the Chief Host of all corps members in Ondo State, Governor Aiyedatiwa assured them that their welfare and security would be well taken care of during their service.
He promised that the state government would continue to support the National Youth Service Corps at all times.
The Governor, represented by Mrs. Tolu Adeyemi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, also urged the corps members to cooperate with camp officials to ensure a successful orientation.
Earlier, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, the NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, congratulated the corps members for completing their academic programs and qualifying for mobilization.
She highlighted the goals of the orientation course, including introducing them to the objectives of the NYSC scheme, preparing them for the challenges ahead, and familiarizing them with their new socio-cultural environment.
Mrs. Bakare outlined a range of exciting activities during the three-week induction, including lectures on Yoruba traditions and culture, leadership training, entrepreneurial development, parade drills, and Man ‘O’ War training, as well as sports and inter-platoon skills acquisition competitions.
The NYSC Coordinator appealed for support from local governments, corporate organizations, philanthropists, and other stakeholders to invest in the infrastructure of the Permanent Orientation Camp, which currently faces challenges due to inadequate hostel accommodation.
At the swearing-in ceremony, the Chief Judge of Ondo State, represented by Hon. Justice Bankole Akinwunmi, administered the Oath of Allegiance to the corps members.
He encouraged them to uphold the ideals of the NYSC and serve the nation with dedication, integrity, and a positive work attitude throughout their service year.
A total of 1,226 corps members, consisting of 544 males and 682 females, have registered for service in Ondo State, while 346 dislodged corps members from Lagos State, comprising 146 males and 200 females, were also sworn in.
