Nigeria’s national power grid has suffered its first major collapse in 2025, just 11 days into the new year, plunging the nation into a widespread blackout.
As reported by PUNCH, this marks the 13th grid collapse in the last 13 months, highlighting ongoing issues in the country’s power infrastructure.
Reports indicate that electricity generation dropped significantly from 2,111.01 megawatts at 2:00 p.m. to just 390.20 MW by 3:00 p.m.
The Energy Podcast confirmed the incident, posting, “National grid suffers major collapse… First in 2025,” while another update stated, “Restoration has begun… Currently generating 302MW as of 2:40 p.m.”
Efforts to restore power are reportedly underway, with more updates expected soon.
