Akungba-Akoko was aglow with activities yesterday as prominent personalities — including politicians, captains of industry, and professionals from various fields — gathered for the thanksgiving and outing service in honor of the late Pa Rufus Oriyomi, father of Chief Tolu Oriyomi.
The high-profile event, which took place at Emmanuel Anglican Church in Okusa, Akungba-Akoko, witnessed a massive turnout, filling the church to capacity.
In his sermon, Venerable F.A. Ayenigbara paid glowing tributes to the late nonagenarian, describing him as a man of exceptional character and achievements.
He highlighted Pa Oriyomi’s significant contributions during his lifetime, particularly his efforts in strengthening the church choir through his remarkable musical talent.
Reflecting on the fleeting nature of life, Ven. Ayenigbara urged the congregation to lead lives that would leave lasting legacies of kindness and virtue.
“Let us strive to live meaningful lives and do good always, so that when we leave this world, we will be remembered for the right reasons,” he admonished.
The cleric also praised the children of Pa Oriyomi for upholding their father’s legacy and continuing to support the church’s growth.
In his remarks, the eldest son of the deceased, Chief Tolu Oriyomi, described his late father as a peaceful man who was deeply committed to the service of God.
He noted that Pa Oriyomi’s life was defined by humility, compassion, and a passion for positively impacting others, adding that many lives were touched through his father’s kindness, mentorship, and dedication to community service.
Also paying tribute, Mrs. Aderonke Oriyomi described the deceased as a caring father-in-law who extended genuine love to all members of the family during his lifetime.
She noted that Pa Oriyomi’s warmth and affection created a bond of unity and peace within the family.
Speaking at the sidelines of the event, the member representing Akoko South East and Akoko South West Federal Constituency, Hon. Adegboyega Adefarati, described the late Oriyomi as a compassionate and kind-hearted individual whose life touched many.
Similarly, Hon. Tope Agbulu, a member of the Ondo State House of Assembly representing Akoko South West Constituency II, lauded Pa Oriyomi’s contributions to the development of Okusa community, noting that he lived an exemplary life.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Barrister Tolu Babaleye, also extolled the virtues of the deceased, remarking that Pa Oriyomi lived a devoted life of service to the church and community.
A Public Relations expert, Akinrogun Alaba Yusuf, called on residents to emulate the admirable deeds of the late Pa Oriyomi, stressing the need for communal harmony and selfless service.
Other dignitaries present at the ceremony included the Asiwaju of Akungba-Akoko, Otunba Bode Iwaloye; Founder of Sam Maris University, Mr. Sam T. Ologunorisa; Chairman of Akoko South West Local Government A, Hon. Ayo Ajana; Hon. Abiodun Ogunbi; Chief Joe Oludare; Mr. Bamidele Yakubu, Barr. Duro Adonis; Barr. Bayo Olorunmeke, among others.
