Emmanuel Abiodun Fayankinnu, a Professor of Industrial Sociology and Gender Relations, has been scheduled to present the 38th Inaugural Lecture at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State.
In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Ceremonies Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Adebisi Daramola, the lecture is set for Tuesday, April 29, 2025, and will take place at the University’s Multipurpose Hall.
The event begins at 2:00 PM, with attendees expected to be seated by 1:30 PM. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige, will preside over the event.
Titled “Still Powerless before Male Subordinates: Contra-Power Sexual Harassment of Women Leaders in the Workplace,” the lecture will explore gender-based workplace dynamics, particularly how female leaders face harassment from junior male staff.
Professor Fayankinnu obtained his B.Sc. in Sociology from the former Ondo State University, Ado Ekiti, in 1995, and later earned both his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Industrial/Gender/Development Sociology from the University of Ibadan in 1999 and 2008, respectively.
His academic journey at AAUA began in 2001 when he joined as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Sociology. He was elevated to the rank of Professor in 2016.
Throughout his career, he has served in several leadership roles within the university, including Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, and Director of Institute and Centre.
Between March 2022 and March 2024, Prof. Fayankinnu served as a Technical Aid Corps Volunteer at the Islamic University in Uganda.
He has also been engaged as a visiting lecturer or external examiner by several institutions, including the University of Warsaw and the Polish Academy of Diplomacy in Poland, as well as top Nigerian universities like Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Ibadan, and Lagos State University, among others.
He has participated in academic conferences across Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean, visiting countries such as Ghana, Tunisia, South Africa, Kenya, Jamaica, Finland, and many others.
An accomplished scholar, Prof. Fayankinnu has contributed to eight books and published over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles. He has also supervised eight postgraduate students, including four Ph.D. candidates.
His work has earned him multiple grants and fellowships, including travel and research grants from TETFUND, UNDP, and UNFPA.
He is an active member of several professional bodies, such as the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Association, Social Science Academy of Nigeria, International Union of African Population Scholars, and the International Sociological Association.
