Daijiworld Media Network, Apr 22 2025, Kolkata : In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves across the city, the body of a young woman with her lips sealed with brown tape was found stuffed inside a trolley bag dumped along the roadside in Baguihati, located in the northern fringes of Kolkata.
According to locals, the trolley bag was spotted lying by the road on Monday night. However, assuming it to be abandoned luggage, it was initially ignored. It wasn’t until early Tuesday morning that a newspaper vendor noticed the bag still in the same position and grew suspicious. He consulted a senior citizen in the area, and the duo decided to alert the local police.
Upon receiving the alert, police personnel rushed to the spot and opened the trolley bag, only to find the body of a young woman dressed in a salwar-kurta, her lips sealed shut with brown tape. The body was promptly sent for autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
Speaking to the media, a senior investigating official said, “Preliminary findings suggest that the woman was murdered elsewhere, and her body was later packed into the trolley bag and dumped here. We are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and checking missing persons’ records to establish her identity.”
This incident comes just months after another shocking case in February, when two women—identified as Falguni Ghosh and her daughter Aarati Ghosh—were apprehended at the banks of the River Ganges in Kumartuli while attempting to dispose of a trolley bag containing the headless, dismembered body of Sumita Ghosh, an elderly relative.
The police are now drawing comparisons between both cases, raising questions about a disturbing trend involving the use of trolley bags in such brutal crimes.
Further investigation is underway as officials attempt to piece together the grim puzzle and bring those responsible to justice.
