Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of his long-time aide and confidant, Mr. Jerry Vampa. In a statement released on Saturday, April 5, 2025, through the Atiku Media Office, the Waziri Adamawa remembered Mr. Vampa as a steadfast companion and invaluable partner in his political journey for over three decades.
A native of Michika in Adamawa State, Mr. Vampa’s relationship with Atiku began over 35 years ago. Having distinguished himself at the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) in Yola, Vampa joined Atiku’s political campaign in the then Gongola State, becoming an integral part of the Waziri Adamawa’s team.
In his tribute, Atiku recalled Mr. Vampa, affectionately known as “Uncle Jerry,” as a figure of humility and kindness, beloved by all who knew him. “Uncle Jerry was with me from the very beginning, a living archive of my political journey. He was not just a colleague but a friend, a man of quiet strength and unwavering loyalty,” Atiku said.
The former Vice President described Uncle Jerry as a joyful presence at the Atiku Media Office, where his positive spirit and deep commitment to service earned him the respect and admiration of everyone.
“His memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of working with him. His loyalty and dedication to duty will never be forgotten,” the statement read.
Atiku extended his condolences to the Vampa family, the people of Michika, and all who mourn the loss of this remarkable man. The former Vice President offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Mr. Vampa’s soul and for strength and comfort for his loved ones during this difficult time.
