A 33-year old staff of Wema Bank PLC, Quadri Ali Adedamola, has landed in trouble for allegedly conspiring with a 57-year old woman, Adekoya Adeyinka Beatrice, to swindle the bank to the tune of over N124m in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that both Adedamola and Beatrice have been arrested and charged for the alleged conspiracy and stealing under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The incident happened in February, 2024 in one of the bank’s branches in Lagos State.
According to the Police, Beatrice conspired with Adedamola, pulled the money from an undisclosed account in the bank and after the transaction,Ā Beatrice gave Adedamola the sum of N4m for assisting her to pull the money.
However, the matter later got exposed after the management discovered the alleged fraud and reported to the Commissioner of Police Special Strike team, which moved into action, arrested the suspects and detained them at the Command for interrogation over their alleged conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found them culpable and charged them before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olatunde Kehinde, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. F.M.Kayode-Alamu, granted them bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
The charges read: “That you, Quadri Ali Adedamola ‘m’ and Adekoya Adeyinka Beatrice ‘f’ and others at large sometime in February, 2024 at WEMA Bank Plc in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: Stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of Lagos State Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Adekoya Adeyinka Beatrice ‘f’ on the same date, place and time in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal the sum of One Hundred and Twenty Four Million, Seventy Hundred and Eighty Five Thousand, Twenty Kobo (N124,785,020.00) property of WEMA Bank Plc and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Quadri Ali Adedamola ‘m’ being a WEMA Bank Plc staff on the same date, place and time in the Lagos Magisterial District, did received the sum of Four Million Naira (N4,000,000.00) from Adekoya Adeyinka Beatrice ‘f knowing same to have been stolen and thereby committed an offence Contrary and Punishable under Section 328(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
