Akwa Ibom sports commissioner Paul Bassey disclosed this when he represented Governor Umo Eno at the Super Eagles training ahead of the match.
Bassey has announced that the Nigeria Football Federation plan to give 500 free jerseys to the first 500 fans that will come to the stadium Tuesday.
Governor Umo Eno has in the meantime promised to provide a football friendly environment for the Super Eagles to conquer the Warriors of Zimbabwe in Uyo.
The Governor who spoke through his Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, stated this during the team’s first training session at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Sunday, where he officially welcomed the team to the state for the all important qualifying match.
While congratulating the team for the spirited performance that earned them a deserving victory over Rwanda in Kigali, Governor Eno charged them to put behind Friday’s outing and focus on the next game in order to get the maximum points which will further brighten their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“You made Nigerians happy when you won in Kigali, and that victory is still being celebrated till now, but let me encourage you not to dwell there, that is in the past, press on for what is to come, which is the game against Zimbabwe and please, do not be complacent,” he charged.
“Uyo has always been a good hunting ground for the Super Eagles, and I’m sure that will continue on Tuesday and beyond, but as a government, we will do everything possible to ensure you get the victory on Tuesday.”
The Governor called on all Akwa Ibomites in particular, and Nigerians generally to turn out en masse with their green and white colours to cheer the Super Eagles to victory.
Nigeria are currently occupying the fourth position in Group C with six points after five rounds of matches and will next face Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo Tuesday, March 25 by 5pm.
