Following the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, respected leader of Niger Delta socio-cultural group, Orashi National Congress, ONC, who doubles as the National President of the Southern Youth Foundation of Nigeria, Amb. Comrade Emeni Ibe, has called on all the stakeholders involved in the political imbroglio in the state to begin to engage in peace meetings for the sake of the citizens.
Speaking to newsmen on Friday 21st March, 2025, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, Amb. Emeni Ibe said that though the suspension of the Executive and Legislative arms is regrettable, the six months period should afford them ample time to resolve their differences and carry on with governance.
“We are certainly not happy with the declaration of the State of Emergency by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However, since the decision has been ratified by the Nigerian Senate and the House of Representatives, we have no option than to accept it and then navigate the paths of peace and reconciliation.”
“I therefore, call on our amiable and peace loving Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, since he has commenced compliance with the judgment of the Supreme Court before the declaration of the State of Emergency, to continue in the paths of peace and extend olive branches to the legislators.”
“The legislators also, as representatives of the Rivers people, should put the interest of the people above their personal interests and equally drop every acrimonious disposition and fault finding for the sake of peace and progress of Rivers State.”
“I believe it is time for us to ask, ‘Why are we here?,’ How did we get here?’ It is my strong belief also that the six months period should be enough to address every concerns about the political imbroglio in our state and it should be maximized.”
“In this case,’ There is No Victor, No Vanguished’. We therefore, plead with all the parties and stakeholders to sheath their swords and allow peace to reign again in Rivers State. At this point, no sacrifice is too big for the sake of the good people of Rivers State” Amb. Comrade Emeni Ibe concluded.
