A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Mr. Oluwaseun Ajongbolo, has dismissed calls for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s resignation, describing them as unfounded and politically motivated.
He argued that those making such demands are merely seeking attention rather than addressing the real security challenges facing the state.
Reacting to recent claims that the governor should step down over the recent killings in Akure, Ajongbolo stated that blaming Aiyedatiwa for the unfortunate incidents was unreasonable.
He insisted that security issues should not be used as a tool for political manipulation.
“I saw a report suggesting that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa should resign due to the recent killings in Akure. This is nothing but an attempt to discredit him unfairly. Security challenges are complex and require collective efforts rather than baseless accusations,” he said.
Ajongbolo emphasized that the governor had already taken proactive measures to strengthen security in the state, including equipping law enforcement agencies and fostering partnerships with key stakeholders.
“Instead of making irrational calls for his resignation, we should recognize the efforts he has made and support him in enhancing security further. Resignation is not a solution,” he added.
He also highlighted Aiyedatiwa’s achievements in various sectors, such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education, stressing that his leadership has contributed significantly to the state’s development.
Furthermore, Ajongbolo noted that insecurity is a nationwide problem and should not be blamed solely on the governor.
“It is unfair to hold the governor solely responsible for security issues beyond his direct control when he has shown commitment to ensuring the safety of Ondo State residents. Rather than engaging in baseless criticism, stakeholders should collaborate with the government, propose solutions, and work collectively to address security concerns,” he stated.
Expressing sympathy for the families of the victims, Ajongbolo assured that the governor remains committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and preventing further attacks.
