Sales Rep, 49, Docked For Diverting Company’s N19m
MICHAEL AKINOLA

A 49-year old sales representative of Learn Africa company, Aborisade Tope, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly diverting the company’s N19m.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at No. 52 Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, where the company is located.
According to the Police, the suspect was engaged as a Sales Representative and between January, 2024 and January, 2025, he made sales of the company’s products. Instead of paying the money into the company’s account, he rather diverted the money to his personal use.
The company however, later discovered and demanded for the money. He claimed that he actually collected the money and diverted it for personal use. The matter was reported to the Police at MAN Centre Division. He was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Aborisade Tope ‘m’, a Sales Representative of Learn Africa Plc situated at No. 52 Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja-Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, sometimes between January 2024 and January 2025 did steal the sum of (N19,000,000:00k), Nineteen Million Naira only, belonging to Learn Africa Plc by diverting it into your personal use, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State of 2015.”
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
