Dr. Babatunde Alex Akindele has called on Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to prioritize the selection of a competent and experienced leader to oversee the affairs of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state at the next congress.
In a message titled “The Mindset of Our Leaders on Who Oversees and Sustains the Hard-Earned Structure of Our Great Party, APC in Ondo State @ The Next Congress and the Significance of Full Execution of Our Ease Mantra,” Akindele emphasized the need for a party chairman who embodies leadership qualities that align with the governor’s Ease Mantra vision.
According to Akindele, the selection of the next APC chairman should be based on key attributes such as capacity, competence, political and administrative experience, discipline, leadership track record, popularity, accessibility, commitment to party cohesion, accountability, and resourcefulness.
He stressed that the right leader must not only have a strong political background but also be a unifying figure who can promote party stability and sustain the party’s structure in the state.
Quoting renowned thinkers, Akindele highlighted the essence of true leadership, citing Simon Sinek’s assertion that leadership is about “taking care of those in your charge,” and Mahatma Gandhi’s view that “the best way to find yourself as a leader is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
He further advised Governor Aiyedatiwa to ensure that the selection process is devoid of favoritism, personal aspirations, or political patronage, but rather focused on the overall progress and cohesion of the party.
As a result of his findings, Akindele strongly recommended Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), as the most qualified candidate to lead the party.
He described Olabimtan as a “patriot, sagacious leader, experienced administrator, grassroots politician, and mentor” who possesses the leadership qualities needed to take Ondo APC to greater heights.
He urged Governor Aiyedatiwa to give his full backing and endorsement to Olabimtan’s candidacy, stating that his emergence as chairman would further strengthen the execution of the Ease Mantra and ensure party cohesion.
Akindele concluded his message by offering prayers for Governor Aiyedatiwa’s continued success in leadership and governance.
