Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against using federal influence to undermine democracy in Osun State’s local government administration.
Makinde issued the warning on Sunday while attending the swearing-in ceremony of 30 newly elected local government chairmen in Osogbo.
He urged the APC to follow due process in addressing legal matters rather than resorting to unlawful means.
Accompanied by the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, Makinde expressed solidarity with Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
He emphasized the need for peaceful governance, recalling the region’s past instability that earned it the “Wild Wild West” label.
Congratulating the new local government chairmen, Makinde reminded them of their campaign promises and encouraged them to deliver meaningful governance at the grassroots.
“For some of you, this will be a stepping stone to higher positions. The reward for hard work is more work,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, referencing the recent South-West Governors’ Forum meeting in Lagos, where both PDP and APC governors convened to address common challenges.
Makinde condemned the recent violence in Osun State and urged all political actors to respect legal processes.
“Even if you have a court judgment, there is a process to follow. You cannot use federal might to truncate democracy,” he warned.
The event reaffirmed PDP leaders’ commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring stability in Osun State’s governance.
