Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, February 21, 2025, Kolkata : A major breakthrough in a narcotics investigation took place today when the Operations Group of the CID, supported by officials from the Howrah Rural District Police, conducted a search operation at a warehouse adjacent to the residence of a suspected drug dealer in Kolkata. The search began with a sweep of the warehouse and two SUVs parked nearby, but initially yielded no significant findings.
However, after an extensive search, investigators discovered a suspicious gap in the floor tiles of the warehouse. Upon removing the tiles, they uncovered a hidden underground chamber. Inside the chamber, the detectives found 31 bags filled with ganja. The discovery led to the immediate arrest of the suspect, Sheikh Majed Ali, a resident of the Chakkashi area in the Bauria police station jurisdiction.
The police also seized three mobile phones from the suspect, adding further evidence to their case. The discovery of such a large quantity of illegal drugs sparked significant public interest, with a crowd quickly gathering in the vicinity of the search.
Following the arrest, CID officials revealed that an additional stash of marijuana was found hidden in the secret compartments under the seats of the two SUVs parked outside Majed’s residence. In total, the operation led to the confiscation of 711.65 kilograms of marijuana, estimated to be worth around one crore taka.
Majed Ali has been charged under the Narcotics Act by the Howrah Rural District Police at Bauria police station, as authorities continue their investigation into the scale of his drug trafficking operations.
