A mother and her two children tragically lost their lives in a devastating fire on Sunday night in Ondo State. The incident occurred at Rainbow Street, Onipakala Junction, near Adeyemi Road, in Ondo West Local Government Area.
A family member, who wished to remain anonymous, shared with journalists that the victims were burnt beyond recognition in the fire, which lasted for several hours.
The mother, a petty trader, and her two children, identified as 16-year-old Bukola and 11-year-old Ife, were trapped in the blaze.
The fire destroyed the entire building where they were located. Despite neighbors’ attempts to rescue them, the local Fire Service was unable to respond effectively.
According to the family source, when they contacted the fire service, they were told there were no available water or chemicals, and the officer on duty abruptly turned off his phone.
CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, the police public relations officer in Ondo, confirmed the incident, stating that the victims’ bodies have been taken to the morgue.
In response, Bimbola Araroba, the chief fire officer of Ondo State, said he could not confirm the details of the fire, adding that only the officer stationed in the area could provide confirmation.
