United Nigeria Airlines has officially kick-started its 2025 Staff Retreat in Abuja, bringing together its leadership, employees, and key stakeholders for a transformative experience. With the theme “Innovation, Digital Transformation, and Leadership,” the retreat sets the stage for strategic discussions on the airline’s future, emphasizing growth, technology, and excellence in service delivery.
However, the retreat took an unexpected yet monumental turn with a landmark announcement from the Chairman and CEO, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, OFR—announcing his decision to step down from his position.
In an emotional yet visionary speech, Prof. Okonkwo reflected on the airline’s incredible journey since its inception nearly four years ago. Under his leadership, United Nigeria Airlines has grown into a trusted name in domestic aviation, known for its schedule reliability, customer-centric services, and a modern fleet that continues to redefine air travel across Nigeria with the core values of unity.
“United Nigeria Airlines was built on a vision—to unite Nigerians seamlessly, safely, and comfortably. As we mark this milestone, I believe it is time for a new chapter, a new leadership that will take this airline even further into the future,” he stated, to a standing ovation from staff and executives present.
