The Ondo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, has reaffirmed the Scheme’s commitment to helping corps members achieve their dreams through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
Speaking at the Inter-Platoon Competition and Exhibition, which marked the conclusion of SAED activities for the 2024 Batch ‘C’ (Stream II) orientation course, Bakare praised corps members for their impressive performance during hands-on training. She emphasized that the NYSC management remains dedicated to providing the necessary support and information to help them succeed in their chosen skills and vocations.
According to Bakare, the NYSC has the potential to significantly impact Nigeria’s economy if the government and private sector offer technical support and financial grants to young graduates.
“My dear corppreneurs, future industry leaders, and CEOs, the NYSC will not leave you stranded in the job market. Instead, we will continue working with financial institutions, NGOs, and international agencies to provide grants, loans, and relevant resources to help you thrive in the business world,” she assured.
She further highlighted that the SAED programme, introduced nearly 13 years ago, was designed to tackle graduate unemployment after their one-year mandatory service. “Many who have embraced this initiative are now business owners and employers, contributing significantly to Nigeria’s GDP,” she added.
While commending all competitors for their enthusiasm and courage, Bakare urged corps members who had not taken the in-camp training seriously to reconsider and fully engage in post-camp training for their own benefit. She also appreciated the collective effort that made the event a success and encouraged stakeholders to maintain their support for future batches.
In her remarks, the Assistant Director and Head of the SAED programme, Pastor (Mrs.) Jennifer Funmilola Dawodu, advised corps members to seize the opportunities provided to secure their future and that of generations to come.
She encouraged them to explore available funding opportunities and leverage digital marketing and ICT to promote their brands globally. Pastor Dawodu also commended facilitators and trainers for their invaluable contributions to shaping the future business leaders of Nigeria.
The competition featured skills such as Fashion Designing, Catering and Culinary Services, Gele Tying, and Public Speaking/Education, showcasing the creativity and dedication of corps members.
