A 30-year old lady, Ogunbiyi Anuoluwapo, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a woman, Olude Oluwatobiloba Elizabeth, under the false pretence of assisting her to ship her consignment to the United Kingdom.Ā
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the lady was charged for conspiracy and stealing under the Criminal Laws of the State for her alleged conduct.
The incident happened between August, 2023 and January 2025 in Akowonjo, Alimosho Area of the Lagos.
The lady after obtaining the money, did not ship the goods as they had agreed; rather she bolted away with the money, went into hiding and disconnected every communication she had with the victim.
The matter was reported to the Police at Shasha Division. The operatives trailed, eventually arrested the lady and detained her at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found her culpable and consequently charged her before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT 1: “That you, Ogunbiyi Anuoluwapo ‘f and one other now at large, sometimes between August, 2023 and January 2025 in Akowonjo-Alimosho Area of the Lagos Magisterial district, did conspire to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, Ogunbiyi Anuoluwapo ‘f’ and one other now at large, at the same, period, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did obtain the sum of N20,000,000.00 twenty million Naira only, from one Olude Oluwatobiloba Elizabeth ‘f under the pretence to help her ship a consignment to the United Kingdom, a representation you know to be false and thereby committed punishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, Ogunbiyi Anuoluwapo ‘f and one other now at large at the same, period, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal consignments and cash worth N20,000,000.00 twenty million Naira only, property of one Olude Oluwatobiloba Elizabeth ‘f and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted her bail in the sum of N5m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 24th February, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
