The Ondo State Government has announced a revised ticket price structure for motorcycle and tricycle riders across the 18 local government areas of the state. This decision was reached in collaboration with representatives of the riders.
The Acting Chairman of the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS), Mr. Bayo Rojugbonkan, disclosed the new rates during a meeting with riders at the Revenue House in Akure. According to him, the daily ticket price for motorcycles has been increased from ₦150 to ₦500, while tricycles will now pay ₦1,000, up from ₦300.
Mr. Rojugbonkan explained that the adjustment was necessitated by the rising cost of ticket production, which had become unsustainable. He noted that a comparative study of ticket rates in other South-West states influenced the new pricing.
“In Ekiti State, the ticket price is ₦850, in Osun State ₦700, Edo State ₦1,200, Lagos ₦1,300, and Oyo State ₦1,200. Our new rate of ₦500 for motorcycles is still the lowest in the region,” he stated.
He emphasized that the increased revenue would be channeled toward the development of critical sectors in the state, benefiting residents and riders alike.
Also speaking at the event, Comrade Gani Muhammed, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties and Strategy, applauded the riders for their continued support of the current administration. He highlighted the government’s recognition of the riders’ contributions to society, which led to the elevation of their matters within the state’s executive structure.
“Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has ensured that the chairman of the tax collection committee is now an Executive Council member, giving riders direct access to the Governor’s office,” Muhammed noted.
In his response, the Coordinator of Tricyclists in Akure South and North, Mr. Olawale Atanbiakin, described the revision as timely and overdue. He assured the public that the new ticket prices would not lead to an increase in transportation fares.
“We already adjusted fares from ₦150 to ₦300 in areas like Ijoka and Oda Road before the ticket increase. This latest adjustment will not impose any additional burden on passengers,” Atanbiakin clarified.
The new ticket prices are expected to take effect immediately.
