The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has announced that corps members will soon begin receiving an increased monthly allowance of ₦77,000.
Ahmed made this known in Abuja during the commissioning of a staff bus donated by Capital Express Insurance Company. He disclosed that arrangements for the allowance increment have been finalised, assuring corps members of the agency’s commitment to their welfare and security.
“By 2025, corps members will receive all the benefits they deserve,” Ahmed stated, as reported by Daily Trust on Tuesday.
Currently, NYSC members earn ₦33,000 per month despite President Bola Tinubu signing the new national minimum wage bill into law in July 2024.
Addressing Transportation Challenges
The newly commissioned staff bus, donated by Capital Express Insurance Company, is expected to ease transportation challenges faced by NYSC staff.
Ahmed expressed gratitude for the gesture and acknowledged the daily difficulties staff and corps members encounter commuting to their offices.
Matthew Ogwezhi, CEO of Capital Express Insurance, emphasized the longstanding partnership between the company and the NYSC. He noted that the donation aligns with their commitment to supporting the scheme, particularly in light of rising fuel and transportation costs in Abuja.
The announcement has raised hopes among corps members, who eagerly await the implementation of the ₦77,000 allowance.
