Operatives of the Odeda Division of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended Akintoye Waris for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat worth N200,000 to celebrate his child’s naming ceremony.
The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, disclosed on Saturday that Waris was arrested on January 2, 2024, in the Odeda area of the state alongside an accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf.
According to the police, the suspects reportedly trespassed on a farm in the area on December 25, 2024, after ensuring that the farm owner, identified as Mark, had taken his cattle out for grazing.
Upon discovering the goat was missing, Mark and other community members began a search, during which some villagers reported seeing the suspects transporting the goat on a motorcycle toward Olodo town.
Acting on this tip-off, police detectives tracked down and arrested the duo in the early hours of January 2, 2025.
“During interrogation, the suspects admitted to stealing and slaughtering the goat,” Odutola stated. “They confessed that the meat was used to prepare food for the naming ceremony of Akintoye Waris’s daughter, which took place on December 27, 2024, in Olodo.”
Both suspects are currently in custody at the Divisional Crime Branch, where further investigations are ongoing.
