The media team of former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has raised the alarm over a fraudulent empowerment scheme circulating on social media.
In a statement released on Sunday by Paul Ibe, Media Adviser to Atiku Abubakar, the public was warned against participating in a scam disguised as an “Atiku Grant by FG,” which promises N65,000 to successful applicants. The scheme, allegedly promoted by a group called “Travelling Abroad Opportunities,” requires applicants to fill out a form and provide personal details, including their bank account information.
“For the avoidance of doubt, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar is not running any empowerment scheme offering N65,000 to Nigerians. Neither he nor any organization associated with him is involved in such a venture,” the statement clarified.
Describing the so-called “Atiku Grant by FG” as a scam, Ibe urged Nigerians to disregard the scheme, warning that its sole purpose is to defraud unsuspecting individuals of their hard-earned money.
The statement emphasized that if Atiku Abubakar were to initiate any empowerment initiative, it would be conducted transparently and directly, not through a third party.
Ibe also called on security agencies to investigate the perpetrators of the scam and other similar fraudulent activities to bring them to justice.
