The Delta State Keke Riders Association, Edjeba Unit, led by Mr. Kelvin Ossai, held its end-of-year thanksgiving service on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at the New Waive Bible Church, Bendel Estate Ogberikoko. The event culminated in a grand reception at Francis Obule Street, Edjeba, Warri, Delta State.
Hon. Comrade Francis Obule, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Political Matters, chaired the occasion. In his address, Hon. Obule expressed his joy in identifying with the union, emphasizing their reputation for integrity and honesty. He commended the members for their exemplary conduct, citing instances where they returned lost belongings to passengers by announcing them on DBS radio.
Hon. Obule encouraged the Keke riders to remain steadfast, assuring them that with diligence, they would achieve greater heights. He remarked, “Some of us started like you yesterday, but today, we are no more there. My prayer is that you will rise beyond this level.”
He also urged the members to support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, lauding the Governor’s MORE Agenda, which is transforming Delta State through infrastructural development. Hon. Obule highlighted the Governor’s efforts in road construction across the state and called on all Deltans to reject the APC-led Federal Government in 2027, citing economic hardships and unfulfilled promises, such as the Port Harcourt Refinery project.
In his welcome address, Mr. Kelvin Ossai, Chairman of the Edjeba Unit, expressed gratitude to God for the progress and growth of the union. “Today, we are here in one accord to celebrate the faithfulness of God upon our lives. The union has grown from stage to stage, and we believe in achieving even more,” he stated. He appreciated the dignitaries and guests who graced the occasion, praying for their safe return.
Comrade Oluwafemi, the union’s PRO, urged his colleagues to maintain their hallmark of integrity while appealing to the government to consider reducing the daily ticket fees for Keke riders to enhance their service delivery.
Comrade Aruawhe Omote Super, a pioneer member of the Edjeba Unit, reminisced about the humble beginnings of the union. He shared how he and a colleague cleared the land for their park and expressed joy at the progress made. “Today, we celebrate what started as an idea. It’s fulfilling to see this union grow and be recognized,” he said.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Hon. Eriye Terence Erere, Councilor representing Edjeba Ward; Engr. Oscar Tugele Efe, Edjeba Community Youth Chairman; Hon. Henry Eritemu, PDP Chairman, Edjeba Ward; Hon. Sunday Ugbokodo, PDP Chairman, Ogunu/Ekurede Ward; Hon. Agbinone Omonigho Francis, SA to the Governor on Special Duties; and Comrade Omugbe Amos of the Lovely Friends Club of Nigeria.
The celebration marked a significant milestone for the Keke Riders Association, showcasing their unity and commitment to community service.
