The Acting Director of General Services, Mrs. Yetunde Abimbola Baderinwa, has urged Corps Members to embrace work ethics to enhance their productivity and foster team spirit during their National Youth Service year. She encouraged them to use the period for self-reflection and personal development.
Mrs. Baderinwa shared this advice during her visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin, Oyo State, where she addressed the 2024 Batch C Stream 1 Corps Members deployed to Oyo State, alongside those dislodged from Lagos State for their Orientation Exercise.
Expressing her appreciation for the warm reception from both Camp Officials and Corps Members, Mrs. Baderinwa congratulated the Corps Members and welcomed them on behalf of the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed. She praised the officers in Oyo State, led by the State Coordinator, Chief Odoba Abel Oche, for their compassion and dedication.
Highlighting the good conduct exhibited by the Corps Members since their arrival at the camp, Mrs. Baderinwa encouraged them to maintain discipline, obey all NYSC rules, and respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities. She advised them to identify and address the pressing needs of their host communities, leaving a lasting impact through their contributions.
“Be intentional about leaving a positive legacy and building relationships during your service year,” she remarked. “The connections you make here could prove invaluable in the future.”
Mrs. Baderinwa also emphasized the importance of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, encouraging Corps Members to leverage the initiative to acquire entrepreneurial skills. She highlighted NYSC’s partnerships with financial institutions like the Bank of Industry and Wema Bank, which provide interest-free loans and grants to support Corps Members in starting their businesses.
On the use of social media, she advised Corps Members to act responsibly by sharing positive news about the NYSC Scheme and avoiding negativity. “Use social media maturely and constructively. Make positive changes wherever you find yourself and be part of the solution.”
Addressing security, the Acting Director urged Corps Members to prioritize their safety by avoiding late-night activities and maintaining a moderate lifestyle at their Places of Primary Assignment.
In his remarks, the State Coordinator, Chief Odoba Abel Oche, thanked Mrs. Baderinwa for her visit, which he said inspired and uplifted the Corps Members. He commended their discipline and adaptability to the regimented camp life, noting that they were representing their families and institutions commendably.
The visit featured a cultural dance performance by the Corps Members, and Mrs. Baderinwa presented cash gifts to some groups as a gesture of encouragement.
