Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), will confer degrees on 6,837 students during its 13th convocation ceremony, with 62 graduating with First Class Honours.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, disclosed this at a press briefing marking the convocation and the 25th anniversary of the university.
Prof. Ige revealed that the graduands are from the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions, noting that 1,941 achieved Second Class Honours (Upper Division), 3,486 earned Second Class Honours (Lower Division), 684 graduated with Third Class Honours, while 8 fell into the Pass category. Additionally, 657 postgraduate students, including 46 Ph.D. holders, will also be recognized.
Lectures and Honorary Awards
As part of the celebration, Prof. Dipo Kolawole, former Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, will deliver the convocation lecture, while Mr. Kayode Ajulo will present the 25th anniversary lecture.
The university will also confer honorary doctorate degrees on notable individuals, including Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Hon. Adegboyega Adefarati, and Mr. Hazmat Subair, for their exceptional contributions to society.
Academic Excellence and Vision
Prof. Ige highlighted AAUA’s commitment to academic excellence, including a stabilized academic calendar and alignment with global standards. He stated that the institution consistently achieves 100% accreditation for its programs by the National Universities Commission (NUC), with ongoing accreditation for 13 additional programs.
He also noted the university’s recent milestone: eight academics were ranked among the top 2% of global scientists in the prestigious 2024 Stanford Elsevier ranking.
Student Support and Development
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated AAUA’s dedication to student welfare, citing initiatives like scholarships and a work-study scheme allowing students to earn stipends by working two hours daily. He also praised the university’s Student Support Centre, which provides financial aid to gifted, indigent, and physically challenged students.
“Under the current arrangement, the university covers half of the school expenses for physically challenged students,” Prof. Ige added.
He concluded by reaffirming AAUA’s commitment to its founding vision of advancing research, knowledge, and service to humanity, which has positioned it as one of Nigeria’s leading universities.
